Jaume Mesquida de Mallorca SA is a family-run company belonging to the DO Pla i Llevant and is based in Porreres (Mallorca);  it was founded 1945 by our great-grandfather Jaume Mesquida Barceló. His work was continued by his son, and years later, the bodega was joined by his grandson Jaume Mesquida Oliver, who breathed new life into Mallorca’s winemaking sector. He took the bold, daring step to plant foreign varieties and decided to apply new technologies to winemaking. He started the renovation of the wine world on the Balearic Islands.

Jaume Mesquida Oliver was the creator of the first sparkling wine to be produced on Mallorca, of the first sweet wine made from grapes infected with noble rot, and of the first single varietal wines, which began production at the end of the 70s.

Now, almost sixty years after the first drop of wine came out of “Can Jenoi”, which is how we are known in Porreres, Bàrbara and Jaume Mesquida Mora take on the continuation of the family challenge. This will be the fourth generation of Porreres wine-makers, backed by the advice and support of our father and our family.

OBJECTIVES

 

Jaume Mesquida de Mallorca is, and aims to continue to be, a leading, pioneering company in the island’s oenology; we therefore operate with the most up-to-date technologies which, combined with country wisdom and dedication to the land, produce our most highly-appreciated wines.

Jaume Mesquida de Mallorca aims to be a meeting-point and transmitter of wine culture, and so we open the doors of our Porreres facilities to everyone and where, apart from seeing how we work, you can find a selection of all the wines from Mallorca, Spain and abroad at your disposal.

Jaume Mesquida de Mallorca is a love of the land, a passion for a job well-done and continuity in a family project that it aims to share with all wine lovers and discoverers.

  

LOCATION

 

Jaume Mesquida de Mallorca SA is located in the centre of Porreres, on Pla de Mallorca. It is a bustling district of nearly 5,000 inhabitants, where you can find not only wine, but many other products from outside the area.

HUMAN TEAM

 

Our bodegas are a reality thanks to a team that works day by day and shoulder to shoulder in the vineyards and the wineries, so that with each harvest, Jaume Mesquida wines can come out on the market.

However, our human team knows no frontiers, because every time you uncork and enjoy a bottle of one of our wines, you will be giving our work a purpose, which is in turn our passion.

 

THE VINEYARDS

 

     

 
 
 

We believe that to make a good wine you must first know the land. As a result, 95% of the grape production that we make wine from comes from our land located inside the Porreres district.

The vineyards spread over argillaceous-calcareous and clayloam terrain. The largest vineyard, Son Porquer, lies on the slopes of Monti-sion. The others are Sanobra, Son Oliver, Mianetes, Son Orellet, Camino de Monti-sion and Burcany.

Numerous varieties are harvested: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay, Prensal, Macabeo, Parellada, Monastrell, Tempranillo, Callet, Manto Negro…in addition to other varieties we are experimenting with such as Pinot Noire.

Our vineyards are tended with great care by our farmers and a team works on them all year round so that

the fruit produced has the maximum quality.

 

THE CELLAR

 

           

 
 

       

The cellar stands in the town of Porreres and has gradually grown up around the historic building known as old cellar. Jaume Mesquida de Mallorca SA has conserved the old design, while combining new facilities and infrastructures that let us work with temperature control and with the demands of modern-day oenology.

The old cement tanks, once used in the production process, have been transformed into wine cellars, and recent construction work has given the winery a fully-refrigerated cellar for ageing wine, with capacity for over 500 barrels.

 

PRODUCTION PROCESS

We make over 20 different products. This means that we carry out a large number of winemaking processes according to the products we wish to obtain and the vineyards of origin.

 

 

 

 
 

 

THE WINES

Gran Molí de Vent: These are new wines, conserving maximum varietal expression with clear fruity, floral and natural reminiscences.

 

Sant Jaume: Wines with noble origins, made from a combination of different varieties.

 

Whites: The Chardonnay and Muscat are Jaume Mesquida’s single varietal white wines, made from vines over 20 years old. Wines with body, conserving varietal expression.

 

Reds: The Cabernet and the Maria Esther are two red wines from the oldest vineyards we have in Porreres. The Cabernet is a structured, vintage wine; the Maria Esther, a 100% Merlot that satisfies both devotees of this variety and those who discover it for the first time.

 

Rosé: The Rosado de Rosa is our high expression rosé, “bled” from the finest bunches of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

 

Family Selection: We make these wines in years of extraordinary weather, providing top-quality grapes. Small quantities are produced and they are hard to find.

 

A passion for experimenting: Pioneer’s in Mallorca’s winemaking, we cannot help experimenting. We complement our offer with a quality sparkling wine, the “Champán de Mallorca”, a sweet wine made from grapes infected with Botritis and an experimental Pinot Noire.
